The SMA BU-STRT-US-50 Backup Start Module is a crucial component for enabling battery-backup operation and Backup Secure (previously SPS) with all SMA Sunny Boy Smart Energy Inverters. With most grid-tied inverters, when the grid goes down, so does the electricity in your solar-powered home. Now with a BU-STRT-US-50 card installed inside any Smart Energy Inverter, your home will still have power during a grid outage.
If your SMA system has a battery, 24-hour power can be provided with the Smart Energy Inverter during battery-backup operation. If your SMA system doesn't have a battery, up to 1920 Watts of daytime energy will be sent to a dedicated power outlet (purchased separately) providing access to power while the sun shines.
